As if….

I didn’t have anything else to do….

I picked up this little table at our local Goodwill for a big five bucks.

I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with it when I brought it home. I thought we might use it in Luby’s room as a bedside table.

I knew I didn’t want it RED though, so the first thing was to sand it down.

It turned out to be a pickled wood under the lime green paint, which was under the red. When you paint directly over a varnish type finish, without properly preparing it – the paint doesn’t stick very well. I could grab a little edge and pull it up, almost like if you were to grab ahold of your pantyhose and stretch it away from your skin. (Why anyone would do this is beyond me, but it feels much the same). So I sanded along the edges and tugged and pulled at the paint. It was actually kinda fun :)

Once it was all done, I had to decide what to do with it before I could paint it.

So… after much consideration, I decided I’d try it out in the living room, beside my favorite chair. I’ve gotten into the habit of setting my laptop on the little table that is there and would occasionally knock the lamp off into the floor or the garbage can.

It looks old and fits right into the rest of the room. Or… I think so, anyway.

I don’t know where you find the time – especially when you go to bed at 8pm. ;-)

I have no patience for this kind of task – particularly when it comes to getting paint or finish out of grooves like what you had in the front. What’s your secret? If the answer is elbow grease, count me out…

BTW: it looks like we have the same paint color in our living rooms. And our endtables (store bought) are black as well. It looks great! Nice work!

One more: Does Mr. Lucky buy you power tools for birthdays & anniversaries? :)

Love it and think it looks perfect there! Such a great table for only $5 and some elbow grease! You rock my sweetest friend!

You know that I think that it came out wonderfully! And for $5.00 plus elbow grease you can’t beat it!

That turned out great! Just the sort of project Chris & Sam love…no, really, they do (me, not so much :-P )

@Chris – No, Mr Lucky knows better than to give me power tools for a holiday – unless he wants me to USE them on him! :) As for getting it done, it does help that I get up super early when everyone else is still asleep. (Which explains that crazy 8pm bedtime!)
And yes, lots of elbow grease on the crevices.

@Shannon, Becca and Meg – Thanks! It was a fun and easy project! Love $5 treasures!! :P
