I picked Shannon up from the Nashville airport last Wednesday night. We had both missed dinner so we decided to stop for a late meal at Cracker Barrel, just north of Nashville. She began to entertain me with stories of how on the plane she’d sat near the potty – and there were unpleasant *smells* wafting through the air that no one should have to be exposed to as they travel. She told the stewardess that she should get a discount for having to sit there!I laughed and laughed at her stories and her theories on proper potty etiquette – how did I NOT know this?? lol Hence, Sheriff Shannon was born! (And Deputy Dory, by default) She joked at how she should issue tickets to habitual offenders to her potty rules. It was quite hilarious and we laughed until our tummies hurt. I think those people at Cracker Barrel were getting quite a kick out of us! This could have been foreshadowing to the entire weekend with all the crazy laughing!
On Thursday, I showed her around my town. That took all of about 5 minutes! We spent the rest of the day either shopping or goofing off. We ate lunch with my hubby and some friends and then we cooked dinner together that evening. My husband was THRILLED to have company because that meant I spent some time actually CLEANING the house prior to her arrival. You think I’m kidding?
Ha!
Friday morning, we drove to the big city of
to begin to meet our arriving friends. I was excited to finally SEE these women that I’ve been friends with for several years!
First to arrive was Stacy, quickly followed by Jen and Bek. The five of us left the airport to check into our rooms and grab some lunch before returning to pick up the last gal to arrive a little later.
I knew within thirty seconds of wrapping my arms around these ladies in a giant and long-awaited HUG that this was going to be a fabulous weekend! Actually, I knew it was going to be fabulous… but it felt SO GOOD to finally be able to SEE and TOUCH them for REAL!
We returned to the airport to pick up Meg. She arrived the latest because she traveled the farthest! (And I must say, I am so proud of her! She had to face ALL OF US at one time! Whew!) While we were waiting, we had jotted her name on the back of a piece of paper and took turns holding it up. Jen cracked us all up by looking at the male travelers that passed and very seriously questioned them, saying, “Meg?” All of them would laugh and one even said, “No, but I WISH!” It was quite comical but also, totally unexpected! I had no idea that Jen would be such a quick thinker and wickedly funny!
We shared two hotel suites that were adjoining so we had plenty of room to visit and spread out comfortably. Each suite was capable of sleeping six, each with the toilet in one little room complete with the world’s tiniest sink while the shower and full size sink were in a separate room. We laughed at the sink, calling it a DINK… because it WAS dinky!

The six of us braved the chilly temps to walk to dinner at the Spaghetti Factory and then we were delivered home via Dolly and her carriage. It was such FUN! (and VERY cold!) There are some beautiful sights in Louisville – it’s not Times Square, but it was still a fun experience!

Although, I have to say… you would have definitely been the TALLEST with this group! lol
Guinieon 11 Nov 2008 at 10:01 am 3LOL I’m disappointed I wasn’t there, but now I’m just more determined to make it to the next “event”! lol
