Chubby

I got a couple of new bird feeders to hang on the deck so I can take photos of the birds that come. I have a bunch of male and female cardinals that visit and I love to watch them. When we hung the new feeders out, Lena and I both had our cameras set on tripods at the doors and we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
(We played Rummikub with the girls while we waited. Shannon made Rummikub-addicts out of us while she was here, so we passed it along to Lena when she got here!)
Finally, this little guy showed up.
He sat out there and ate until we thought he might explode.
Seriously.
He got so relaxed sitting there, he dozed off for a bit, it seemed.
And then he woke up and ate some more.
We started calling him “Chubby” because he appeared to get fatter by the moment.
Eventually our patience paid off because the entire cardinal family appeared together – five males and five females, traveling as a pack. It was getting late in the afternoon, nearing dark. Another 30 minutes, it would have been too dark to get any pictures at all. They must have very acute hearing because the click click click of our cameras kept scaring them. It was difficult to get any photos of them because they just would NOT hold still!
I got a few though.
This one sat back and watched Chubby for a while before deciding to join him at the feeder.
And before long, there were two Mr. Cardinals joining Chubby.
Lena posted a fabulous pic of one of the cardinals also…. she was using my big zoom lens (and I really think I’m the one that took the shot but we’ll let her claim it. hehe) ![]()
