Compassion:

-noun

1. a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

The definition seems to aptly fit the Compassion Bloggers, doesn’t it?

Surely you’ve heard of Compassion International by now. I honestly don’t remember when I heard of them – but I know that I started seriously following this past November when Marlboro Man and two daughters (husband of the Pioneer Woman) and Melanie (Big Mama) and Shaun Groves (Shlog) all went to the Dominican Republic on a trip to share the Lord’s love and see firsthand what Compassion International is doing to change the lives of these kids.

As I watched Slumdog Millionaire this weekend, which is set in Mumbai – seeing the poverty and filth that is ever-present in slums of India, I couldn’t help but think of the bloggers that are right now, this week, in Kolkata. I’d seen the movie in the theater a few months ago but my husband hadn’t seen it. It seemed ironic that I was watching it, since I knew the bloggers had arrived and were seeing these sights firsthand. Actually, it wasn’t ironic - it was a God thing, making sure I remembered to pray for them. So…. I will be eagerly following their posts, and shedding tears, no doubt. And I’ll be lifting them all up in prayer this week – why don’t you join me?
