Cruisin’ Memory Lane

I used to be extremely talkative when I was a child. I know what you’re thinking…. I haven’t changed much! But in all honestly, I have. Now it takes me a while to *warm up* to new situations and new people. For example, one of the doctors at my office says, “I remember back in the early days of you first starting here. You’d hardly say Boo to a mouse. Now…. you just never hold back!” That’s usually following a comment I’ve made to him that was rather snippy. (He calls me *Stumpy* and I call him *Big Boy*. When he is aggravating me, which he LOVES to do, I finally reach the point that I’ve had enough and call him on it, usually ending it. It’s all in good fun, despite what that sounds like. We honestly have a lot of respect for each other so it’s just banter between friends and colleagues.)
But I digress.
I was listening to my little Luby who is the spitting image of me at eight years of age, I do believe. She too takes a few minutes to warm up to new situations but oh my goodness! once she gets going, there is NO stopping her. She is a constant chatterbox and FULL of hilarious antics. I love that girl immensely, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes a little quiet would be a nice thing.
I spent most of the weekend holed up in either bed or the recliner, nursing a cold. I was alternately reading and watching tv - and listening to the girls interact. Poor Beebo is a little more laid back at times and her patience runs thin with Luby fairly quickly, as only sisters can do.
This is the thing that reminds me of my childhood. My sister Lina is only 16 months older than me. I used to ANNOY the heck out of her when we were kids, with my constant chattering. When she’d reached the end of her rope with me (which happened quite frequently, as I recall) she’d say, “I think I hear a mouse talking….” and act like she didn’t see me right in front of her, waving my arms and saying “IT’S ME, IT’S ME!!!” Oh my good gracious! Talk about making me be frustrated! All it took were those few words and I would be ready to bop her in the nose!
We laugh about it now - ok well… she LAUGHS way more than I do about it! Now that I have a miniature version of ME living here, I can sorta see her point.

Stacyon 17 Nov 2008 at 6:56 am 1You’re talkative? Really? I hadn’t noticed.
Luby is the answer to your parents saying “I hope when you have kids of your own, they are just like you.” LOL
Doryon 17 Nov 2008 at 7:58 am 2You are SO right on that Stacy. I can just see my mom wishing one just like me on me! lol
Guinieon 17 Nov 2008 at 8:25 am 3LOL My youngest sister claims that I used to hit her all the time…funny how I don’t remember that AT ALL. I don’t know if I really did or if she’s making up stories to get sympathy. ;o) In either case, at least we can all laugh about it now…
I really hope I DIDN’T hit her all the time, though… Yikes.
Beccaon 17 Nov 2008 at 11:43 am 4You? Talk alot? Somehow I don’t see it!
Jenon 17 Nov 2008 at 1:06 pm 5I’d have to agree… even with the limited time I spent with you and Luby - she is definately YOUR DAUGHTER!
I adored her!!
megon 17 Nov 2008 at 2:33 pm 6I feel for you there~ I’ve got two of them at home :-S
I got home from work at 4:45 & Sam started telling about his day; I dropped him off at Youth around 6:00 & he. was. still. talking! I either put my hand over his mouth, or ask him where the off button is today
Chris just as bad- he starts when he hits the door, walking thru the house, in the shower, cooking dinner- but no one can hear him because he mutters- talks during the program & stops during the commercials (has to get something to quench his parched throat!) until I either turn up the volume or leave the room.
Jeanon 18 Nov 2008 at 6:11 am 7My mom still laughs about how she had to make my older brother quit “interpreting” for me, so I’d learn to talk! Then she wished she hadn’t! I talk a lot less nowadays, unless I know you really well, and have something to say! We really do usually have one that fulfills the “mother’s curse”! I’m laughing at Kate, now, because Violet is definitely her mother’s daughter..
hugs,
Jean
