Did you know…

…that apparently it takes 10 seconds to sing *Happy Birthday*? We took Beebo and a bunch of her friends to a movie and then for pizza on Saturday, for more birthday celebrating. While at Pizza Hut (her choice, not mine!) I ran in the restroom to wash my hands before the food arrived and noticed the sign below on the wall. I had just never heard it referenced that way!
You’ll notice, the sign ends with a comma and there appears to be something *whited out* in the last line. Wonder what that was? Something that once upon a time required you to wash your hands after and then, suddenly - you no longer have to??? Yuck. Does that make sense to anyone?

Guinieon 14 Jul 2008 at 7:22 am 1The thing we most commonly hear here is to sing the ABCs. I’ve only seen it posted in one place, though.
Yeah…hmmm…wonder what was whited out? Makes you wonder…
thotladyon 14 Jul 2008 at 9:13 am 2I’ve got nothing, but didn’t want to leave without commenting. Monday morning blahs.
giggleson 14 Jul 2008 at 10:23 am 3I’ve gotten some strange looks when I leave the bathroom without washing my hands, cause I don’t wash them, there. I’m allergic to most of the hand soaps in them, so I always carry purell in my purse but I wait till I leave so I don’t have to touch the door and get germy hands on the way out. Yean I am a bit strange.
Have a great week!
Beccaon 14 Jul 2008 at 10:32 am 4Now I want to know what that line was…you are going to have to be our intrepid reporter and ask!
Double dog dare you!
Aww man… double dog? Really?
megon 14 Jul 2008 at 1:26 pm 5I don’t think I want to know
Beeboon 14 Jul 2008 at 9:02 pm 6I didn’t see the whited out word on the sign! Smart observation
LOL You’re a nut!
Jenon 14 Jul 2008 at 9:16 pm 7Maybe it said “and wash before eating?”
I think I told the story about how I am a freak when it comes to handwashing and I MUST wash before my hands immediately before eating. I also won’t share finger foods with people who I haven’t *seen* recently washing their hands.
One of many strange quirks of mine.

I remember that… I promise to wash my hands, often…
BEKon 14 Jul 2008 at 11:44 pm 8I have never seen this posted in any bathroom; except the restrooms at the office I used to work at because I was the one that posted them! I worked at a family practice office and encouraged handwashing at every visit! Almost every child knows how to sing “happy birthday” to themselves so it seems to work. When I educated adults/parents it was like a light bulb went off!
As for the whited out word-I don’t think I want to know either….:)
P.S. I’m a friend of Jen’s who directed me to your website
Cheers!
Tracieon 15 Jul 2008 at 10:10 am 9WHen I see those signs in public restrooms, espcially eating establishments (ie fast food), I’m alway just kinda taken aback and think to myself “people that don’t know to wash their hands are preparing my food”. I am curious about the whited out portion and who decides what is classified as unsanitary?
