Ewww! It looks like WHAT???

My darling daughter, Beebo, has no trouble speaking her mind. Whatever it is she is thinking, she says it without hesitation. This is both a good and a bad thing. Sometimes, a little discretion is wise. But, she is only ten - and hasn’t learned the art of discretion just yet.

One night recently, I was cooking dinner - following one of my BFF’s recipes for Taco Casserole. A quick and yummy meal for a weeknight, when I come barreling in with the need to have dinner on the table in less than 3 minutes. Which, sadly, happens several nights a week! It truly is a quick and easy recipe to follow and made a nice hearty dish for a cold winter night. I was pleased with the results and had already taste-tested it in the pan before I called the kids and their dad in for dinner.

Beebo walked right over to the pan and looked at it. She said, very matter-of-factly, “Well, on one hand, it looks like it might be quite good. On the other hand though, it looks sort of like a really big baby just threw up.”

Ewww. Yum. Makes me want a dip up a big ole’ serving right away.

I walked back to the stovetop and looked in the pan, prepared to argue with her. But, quite honestly, it DID look like something a really big baby might throw up. A baby that doesn’t chew its food very well.

I said, “Yuck. You’re right. It does.” I sighed heavily. And said, “So, you still going to try it?” thinking she’d say “HECK NO” and ask to make a sandwich instead!

She said, “Sure!” LOL

As it turns out, everyone loved it, despite what it might have looked like!

I told her later, “Honey, I love your honesty. But … could you maybe NOT mention baby vomit the next time we’re getting ready to eat something? It kinda grosses me out a little. K?”

She laughed and said, “Ok. How ’bout comparing it to baby poop instead?”

Ummm. No. But before I could close my mouth, that had fallen open in surprise, she laughed and said, “Kidding Mom!”
