Friday Five I

Each week has its special moments. Each day, actually. If we could all just take the time to slow down and enjoy them a little …. for just a split second – wouldn’t we all be happy campers?
This being the first week back in reality (post-holidays) it seems appropriate to focus on the FABULOUS moments of the week, instead of the ho-hum moments. Surely there are FIVE fabulous moments, ya think?
- The girls donating their hair to Locks of Love. Not only was it a FABULOUS gesture, they cracked me up in the process. We spent the day before hearing things like, “This is the last day to wash my hair with my hair long.” and “This is the last time to fall asleep with my hair long.” and “This is the last morning to get ready for school with my hair long.” I was so glad to get to the salon so they’d quit that. And then, wouldn’t you know… they just switched gears. On the way home it was, “This is the first time to ride in the car with my hair short!” and “This is the first time for the dogs to see us with our hair short!” and “This is the first time to get ready for bed with our hair short!” Sheesh. Those girls are a mess!
- We cleared out MOST of our storage building! WooHoo! We moved to this house almost 4 years ago, while the sale was pending on our previous home. We were taking our time, unpacking boxes that had been stacked in the garage – in hopes of getting it organized sufficiently to move the final bit of stuff from the basement of our old house into the garage. Our closing date was set almost a month later so we thought we had oodles of time, right? But you know how it is, on a Wednesday afternoon – we were called and the closing date was moved up to the following Friday…. and we were leaving to go on vacation that Saturday. So in a major hurry – we rented a storage building and quickly moved everything into it. It has just been so easy to pay the rental fee every month and NOT have to deal with it. But… almost 4 years later, that’s a whopping $1,659. we’ve paid out to not have to deal with it. Ridiculous huh? So… finally, it’s all out but a few items that wouldn’t fit and we will get them this weekend. I didn’t love the actual job of emptying it out in the freezing temperatures with sleet on our heads, but it felt FABULOUS to get it mostly done! *Sidenote* – it was kinda like Christmas again… I forgot what all was in there and found a few treasures along the way! You’ll hear more on that in the future, I bet!
- We’ve been looking at our finances to see where we can cut some expenses (hence the storage building stuff in #2) in order to start off the new year with a financial PLAN instead of just winging it. Now, this is painful to me – I am so NOT a planner. I believe I’m definitely what Dave would call a *financial free spirit*. I agree with the principal and once it’s all in place, it will be ok…. but having to list out all our expenses and all that crap that goes into making a budget just kills me. I’d rather poke needles in my eyes! Thank goodness my hubby is motivated and properly equipped to handle this area (what Dave would call a *nerd*) because I just wanna crawl back in bed and pull the covers over my head until it’s over! All in all, I know this is a FABULOUS thing for us – even if it’s hard to do. I love you honey for dealing with the areas that I just can’t or don’t want to!
- My youngest daughter had a slight …. ok, a HUGE blowout in her pants the other day at school. Although the actual ripping of the pants and the embarrassment that surely followed is NOT funny because we’ve all lived through that at least once in our lives and can surely remember how red our faces turned…. but to hear her tell the story – now that part WAS pretty darn hilarious. Especially when she added that she was wearing polka-dotted underwear. Poor baby…. I’m sorry it happened but then… I really hadn’t laughed that hard in a while!
(That’s a dishtowel laying underneath so you can see how big the hole was by the time she got home!) That’s not really a FABULOUS moment from the week, but it sure is a memorable one. - Today is FRIDAY! That is FABULOUS, right??
Ya’ll have a great weekend! Do something fun and fabulous!

They both look so cute with their new haircuts. How sweet of them to donate their hair. You are raising wonderful human beings
So I didn’t get around to sending out Christmas cards this year. felt really bad even though my life has been in topsy turvy for a bit.
