Hands

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Monday, May 18th, 2009

Isn’t it amazing to stop and think of all the things you use your hands for during any given day? You touch doorknobs and hairbrushes and dishtowels and soap. You sort laundry, you fold clothes, you put them away in the drawers. You cook dinner, set tables, and do dishes.

At work, you answer phones or type on a keyboard or shake hands as you greet someone. In my case, I wear gloves on my hands and end up washing them a gazillion times a day.

Millions of things you do with your hands each and every day.

For me, the most important things I do with my hands are touching my children, my husband and the dogs. I love the feel of my husbands freshly cut hair prickly under my hands. I love when the girls take my hand as we cross the street. Simple things, and yet, so perfect.

My favorite thing though, above all else, happens at church. For the past 18 years, since the early days of dating – long before he became my husband – each and every time we pray at church, my husband reaches for my hand.

We always go to the Lord in prayer with our hands clasped together.

It’s such a simple thing, and yet, it means so much to me.

This is one of my favorite things too. How lucky are we to have husbands will to worship and pray with us? We are blessed. (even on the days they drive us batty :)

I fall asleep holding my husbands hand. I can’t if I don’t. How odd is that?

What a wonderfully simple and sweet jesture. Some of those are the most precious things in life. I am so glad that you and D share such a great bond. I can only pray that one day I will have the same thing at church.
