Have you see these?

I didn’t get quite done with Luby’s room. It’s almost done: we’re waiting on a lamp shade to arrive that I ordered and the pink polka dot transfers for the chocolate brown wall. Meanwhile, I started in Beebo’s room, getting her furniture sanded, primed, and painted white. It all looks so crisp and clean and we’re loving it so far! Since I’m leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow, I suppose the *big reveals* will have to wait until I return at this point. Sorry for the teaser the other day. Shamey shamey on me.
In the meantime, I was thinking that it’s been a while since I’ve mentioned the movies I’ve seen lately. As you might remember, I don’t do a *movie review* per se, but more of if I liked it or not, and why. I will watch just about anything once (or a dozen times) and often forget them the minute they are over (seriously) but every now and then, a few stick with me.
All the movie titles are links to the trailers for each, if you’re interested.
Rails and Ties (2007)
The IMDb synopsis was chock full of spoilers so I didn’t want to post it, in case anyone is interested in watching this movie.
Kevin Bacon and Marcia Gay Harden both give emotional performances in this tragedy-turned-positive story. I’ve always been a Kevin Bacon fan, which is why I added this to my Netflix queue in the first place. Later, I learned that it was the directing debut for Alison Eastwood, daughter of the fabulous Clint Eastwood.
Although the story itself seemed a little farfetched in its plausibility, it was brought to life by rich acting. The boy in the film (Miles Heizer) was precious and his big crocodile tears just about sent me over the edge. Needless to say, I needed a box of tissues.
If you like tear jerkers that ultimately leave you with the feeling that anything is possible, this is the movie for you.
Push (2009)
IMDb synopsis: A group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities are hiding from a clandestine U.S. government agency. They must utilize their different talents and band together for a final job enabling them to escape the agency forever.
This movie was full of action and stunning visual effects… it gave me a headache!
Chris Evans (the cutie patootie from The Nanny Diaries) and a more grown up Dakota Fanning are the lead actors in this fast pased futuristic type story. It was a complicated storyline – or maybe its just complicated for ME.
(In all honesty, I got hung up at trying to figure out what was up with Dakota Fanning’s teeth and eyeing the teeth of the *screamers*. Professional problem.)
Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008)
IMDb Synopsis: The mysteries of the heart. Two children of privilege, friends alike except in how they see love, summer in Barcelona. Vicky is a grad student in Catalan studies, engaged to a safe man; Cristina is finding herself, knowing that safety is not what she wants. Juan Antonio, an artist rumored to have a violent marriage behind him, invites them to spend a weekend with him. They accept. As the summer goes on, their time with Juan Antonio challenges Vicky’s assumptions about who she is and suggests to Christina that she may have found herself. Into the mix come Juan Antonio’s volatile ex-wife and Vicky’s reliable fiancĂ©. Amidst the passion of Barcelona, can there be resolution?
This movie was full of beautiful people – Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Javier Bardem. It was definitely full of a more carefree approach to life and love than I’ve ever embraced or even remotely considered. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery though.
I’ve also seen Quarantine (loved the scary factor), Splinter (tried to be scary), Passengers (loved it), Valkyrie (yeah, yeah, Tom Cruise), The Wrestler (had to see Mickey Rourke’s award winning performance), In Bruges (full of bad language…sheesh), The International (Clive Owen… yum) and Lakeview Terrace.
Whew. I obviously have no life. ![]()

Jenon 27 Jul 2009 at 12:12 pm 1Last night we watched “Knowing,” Nicholas Cage’s new release on DVD. I completely felt like I wasted 2 hours of my life. It was ridiculous.
I sincerely appreciate your opinion on movies. I shall consult with you prior to my next DVD rental!
Have fun in Vegas, baby!
Doryon 27 Jul 2009 at 12:28 pm 2@ Jen – Oh yeah! Forgot that one… we saw it too. It WAS stupid. It looked so good on the trailers – way more suspenseful and mysterious than I thought it actually was. I was very disappointed in it too.
