In the thick of it

Lillie 002e

We’re all being extra careful to NOT swap germs (or air) with our 9 year old Luby…. our resident swine flu girl.

According to our pediatrician, since it is too early for the seasonal flu, the CDC is recommending that all patients that test positive for the flu – to automatically assume it is the swine flu. Yesterday, Luby tested positive. Lovely.

The recommendation: Manage her symptoms as best we can. Fever reducers as needed, breathing treatments as needed, and……ONE week of NO SCHOOL – even if she is fever-free. (She is actually VERY excited about that – can you imagine?) So, Mr. Lucky and I are trying to figure out how to manage our next weeks’ work schedule to accommodate a sickly kid. Her fever is gone for the moment, I’m certainly hoping it stays that way! And I’m really hoping none of the rest of us get it. We’re supposed to be beach-bound for fall break one week from today.

Oink, oink.

I would truly love to have my kids come over and play with Luby. I’d even let them drink after her and I am a true germaphobe! :)

I want them to get it NOW and get it over with. I think it would be worse in the cold, cold winter. Right now, I can open the windows and let the germs out. I have no doubt that my kids will end up with it – there is no escaping it. It is widespread here in our area of Kansas.

Everyone I have talked to/taken care of that has tested positive seems to feel that it isn’t all that bad – at least not as bad as it was expected to be. I think the media blew it wayyyyy out of proportion.

Nevertheless, I hope she feels better soon and enjoys her school break! :)
