King of the Road

When I was just a wee girl, my parents had a houseboat that we all LOVED. Every (or… it seemed like every in my memory) Friday afternoon in the summer, we’d pack up food and clothes and head to the lake. I remember how much we all enjoyed those days, in a vague sort of way. I was young, less then 7, I’d guess. We’d play all weekend and then head back home on Sundays so my parents could get ready for the work week ahead.
In blogs past, you’ve heard me talk about my love of music and how certain songs take me away in my mind… to people or places of the past. That holds true all the way back to the days of the houseboat. I often hear songs that make me think of those days, as this one does…. I’m not sure exactly who loved Roger Miller – but man, does this song make me smile, in a sad sort of way. I can close my eyes and remember sitting on the upper deck of the boat which was anchored in some favorite little cove or another, laughing and yucking it up with my sisters while my parents and their friends were nearby. Those were good times.
