My darling daughter Luby at the Cincinnati Museum of Art this past weekend. I chaperoned for Beebo’s NJAHS group (National Junior Art Honors Society) and Luby went with us.
She had gotten her Herbst appliance placed the day before so…. I felt sorry for her and decided to take her too. I’m so glad I did! She was on her best behavior and I loved having that sweet girl along! Oh… in case you’re wondering what a Herbst appliance is:
It’s such a lovely medieval-looking device of TORTURE used in orthodontics to move the lower jaw forward some when you have a pretty substantial overbite. She’s doing FANTASTIC with it after just a few days. The worst part is the screws on the upper that kind of dig into her cheek, making it sore. We’re trying to put some wax on them to ease the discomfort as much as possible.

Stacyon 20 Apr 2010 at 6:49 am 1Tell her to hang in there, her cheeks will toughen up soon. I forget the name of it, but there is a liquid you can get in the dental aisle that will numb it and then form a protective barrier.
