Maybe they didn’t get the memo:

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Last weekend, the girls and I traveled with my hubby out-of-town for a continuing education course. We just sort of loafed, shopping and swimming and basically, being bums while Dad was hard at work. For me, it was a welcomed break from the monotony that has become our lives lately.

The hotel that hosted the course overlooked this small park. From the windows, we could look down and see this impressive display of fountains.

The girls were very interested to go down and get an up close and personal view. You know that Mom was overruled because, despite the fact that it was 212* outside that day - I really didn’t have a valid reason to NOT go check it out.

As we entered into the park, I could see kids in the fountain and despite the heat - I was already saying “Girls, don’t get any bright ideas… you can NOT get wet… Dad will be done in less than 30 minutes now, we’ll be going to eat - you can’t change clothes…. yada yada.”

But, of course, they HAD to at least touch it.

About the time I was taking these pictures, my hubby called and said he was done and ready to go. The girls and I headed around the fountains to go back to the hotel. As we got to the far end of the fountain, we read this sign:

After reading it, we look back at the fountain and wonder…. what are they doing?

It sparked a great conversation about following rules… despite what the crazy world around you is doing. Which was a good thing…. but I have to tell ya, it was hotter than blue blazes out there that day. I really can’t say I blame those folks for bending the rules to get a little relief from the heat. I sort of wanted to jump in too! :)

What a fun fountain! I love that you used this opportunity to talk with the girls about following the rules- even when it doesn’t seem like it would be a big deal to break them. Maybe you could have that talk with my sweet Honey who loves to tease me by breaking rules- like going out the entrance and in the exit of parking lots- just to make me crazy. :)

Ha ha ha… That cracks me up and seriously sounds like something I might do… just b/c I knew it made you crazy! Good thing I don’t live there huh?

I wonder if that other family even saw that sign? I am glad that you did, because you never know if there are suction like in pools that could have injured the girls.

    Hugs,
    Becca

    Yikes, scary thought!

I am not sure that I would have followed the rules that day either. I am not talking about full out walking the steps, but maybe just soaking my toes a little while sitting on the edge. Sure looks inviting.

That it did…. very inviting! Which is why I had to drag my girls away, kicking and screaming. Ok, not really. ;)

What a great place! I love fountains & those look interesting.
And people wonder why so many young people have little respect for authority & rules- look at the example those parents are giving their children :-(

The fountains were all lite up at night… simply gorgeous! I regret that I didn’t get a picture. Mr. Sandman carried me off too soon.

They have to post those signs to cover their own butts with the liability. I think I would have laid right down in it. That is way too hot.

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that… just a liability issue. You’re so smart! But seriously, even if I HAD thought of that… I still probably wouldn’t have let the girls do it once I’d seen the sign. My luck, the police would have taken us to the pokey!

    Hey Lady!

I hadn’t really thought about it but our town has a big fountain that the playing in is encouraged. Keeping my boys out of that would be especially hard now.

Really? Wow… now, encouraged fountain swimming is a whole ‘nother ballgame! Go for it!
