Movies, movies, movies

I spent some time catching up on movies this weekend, one of my all time favorite things to do.
I watched a few duds and one that I actually liked quite a bit. So for my official non-review, keep reading.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
IMDb Synopsis: Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) is a notorious photographer who has a bad boy reputation of loving beautiful women and dumping them when they fall in love with him. His brother Paul (Breckin Meyer) is about to get married, and Connor thinks he is making a terrible mistake. As an incorrigible bachelor, Connor loves his freedom more than ever settling down and loving only one woman. Connor tries to talk Paul out of getting married, and it looks like Connor is about to succeed. Then the night before the wedding, Connor is visited by three ghosts, who take him back to his past, present, and his lonely future. They try to discover the point in time where Connor became this womanizing jerk. Maybe there is still time to change him into a sensitive, feeling, and caring person that he once was, and he may even find his true love.
I’ve always been a McConaughey fan – and I adore Jennifer Garner. The movie though…. well, it was a little lacking, in my opinion. It was a play off of “A Christmas Carol” but didn’t really fill me with the warm and fuzzies as that always does. It seemed to be much more mean spirited than even Ebenezer Scrooge. But…. that’s just me.
*****
The Taking of Pelham 123
IMDb Synopsis: Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime.
As far as action/thriller movies go, it was a good story but sadly, didn’t quite pan out in the end. I was expecting more given the star power of Travolta and Washington and was disappointed. Add in the fact that every other word was a cuss word and you’ll know why I struggled to finish it.
*****
The Maiden Heist
IMDb Synopsis: A comedy centered on three museum security guards who devise a plan to steal back the artworks to which they have become attached after they are transferred to another museum.
I’d never even heard of this movie before renting it, but seeing Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy on the box were enough to trigger my interest. I have to say, it was quirky, fresh and funny. I enjoyed it immensely. The girls watched it with me and they loved it too! There was little or no bad language, which was a treat, considering all the movies of late. There were a few scenes of nudity but even those were funny – given the circumstances. Overall, I loved it!
*****
The Brothers Bloom
IMDb Synopsis: The Brothers Bloom are the best con men in the world, swindling millionaires with complex scenarios of lust and intrigue. Now they’ve decided to take on one last job – showing a beautiful and eccentric heiress the time of her life with a romantic adventure that takes them around the world.
Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody, and Mark Ruffalo combine to create an entertaining, fun and kind of haphazard comedy. I enjoyed it but as it was ending, I found myself saying, “That was completely bizarre” to no one in particular, just myself.
