Yesterday I had a patient in the chair that is one of those I dread to see on the schedule. Oh, he’s nice enough, don’t get me wrong, but he is a name-dropping one-upper type of person. You know the kind, everything you say – they can do better. I’m just so not that way and I find it rather annoying.
Anyway, as soon as he was in the chair and I was preparing to take update his radiographs, his phone vibrated in his chest pocket, signaling an incoming text. He looked at it and said, “Excuse me one sec and let me reply”.
I waited.
And waited.
And waited.
The man is the slowest texter on the face of the earth, evidently. Even slower than my Mr. Lucky.
I said, “Oh, you’re a hunt and peck-er.”
No sooner than it came out of my mouth, I realized I said “pecker” and was thinking, “ruh roh, maybe he didn’t hear me, please Lord, don’t let him have heard me…..”
He looked up and said, “Excuse me?”
I said, “You know, hunt and pecking on the keys….” (trying to not say “pecker” again)
He said, “Ohhh, HUNT and peck…. I thought you said something else. Something that starts with a C”
Color me embarrassed.
