Puddle jumping

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

When we came home from church Sunday morning, there were a gazillion birds out in the yards. It was kind of bizarre, in a Hitchcock-sort-of-way, to see that many in our yard at one time. I suppose the recently melted snow combined with the drizzling rain made the worms surface in abundance. And the birds were just out to Sunday lunch – like the rest of the good folk in the neighborhood.

As we pulled into the driveway, we noticed these little guys taking a bath out in the ditch-line, near the road.

They kept flapping their wings under the water and quickly in the air, flap flap flap, wash, wash, wash.

So sweet. So fun to watch.

Life is all around us, filled with precious moments, if we only take the time to notice.

Is it normal for robins to winter in your area? Typically, seeing a robin means that spring has returned around here…

Last week at my dentist appt, I was looking out the window and saw a robin in a tree as it was snowing! I was so surprised! I told my hygienist I would never get any work done if I were her – I would just stare out at the birds eating the chokecherries on the trees outside her window if I had a view like she does!
