Sorely lacking

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Thursday, August 28th, 2008

My friend Angie and I have fallen in the habit of going to see a movie on Sunday afternoons. You know, that time of day when I’d otherwise be *napping*. This past week, she called on Thursday and rattled off the list of what would be playing. There wasn’t much – so she said, “Let’s see “Death Race” - it has Jason Statham in it.”

I said, “I don’t know what that is… but ok.”

(I actually envisioned the trailer for Eagle Eye that we’d seen a few weeks ago – that’s what I thought THIS one was about. I was wrong, as it turns out.)

So all right. How in the heck did I miss the trailers for THIS? I knew in the first 30 seconds that I was NOT going to see what I thought I was seeing!

I obviously don’t have the testosterone flowing through my system that this movie requires. And I sure as heck don’t have a penis either. Those must be essentials required to get into this flick. (No offense fellas: I only say that because when the house lights came up at the end of the movie – I realized we were nearly the ONLY females in the room.)

Which would be why I sat there, watching but constantly shaking my head, thinking “What was I THINKING??” followed by “What was SHE thinking?” :P I looked at Angie, laughing at the absurdity of the two of us sitting through this movie.

Yes, Jason Statham has a rock-hard chiseled body that was not altogether unpleasant to look at but the vicious and graphic scenes of death and car races (duh… as the NAME implies!) were just absolutely over the top. It was cheesy, ridiculously predictable and full of bloody violence.

Sheesh.

I told Angie afterwards – “Ok… that was soooo not what I thought it was!”

She said, “I didn’t think it was but I wanted to see it so I sure wasn’t going to tell you!”

Next time, I get to check the movie list, girlie.

I have to admit I’m a little curious about it. It’s based LOOSELY on “Death Race 2000″ that starred David Carradine. He played the same guy Jason Statham plays in the new one. It also had pre-”Rocky” Sylvester Stallone as Machine Gun Joe. Weird, huh? If you’ve never see “DR2000″, you haven’t SEEN cheesy yet!!! Oh my. lol But at least you had a good time with a friend! :o )

Yes, that I did. I didn’t hate the movie – but I don’t feel the need to see it again!

I have to say the closest that I have come to watching a movie like that was “The 40 Year Old Virgin”. Bad movie. Turned it off 15 minutes in and sent it back to NetFlix. Awful movie. Not even funny. I guess that was not my kind of humor.

I would like to see the movie “The Family That Preys”. It isn’t at all what you think. go to this link. It starts 9/12:

I can understand that – it was not my cuppa tea either.

I’m like G. When the original (“Death Race 2000″) came out in the seventies, I was dying to see it – primarily because of the tag line that played on the crosswalk sign: “Don’t Walk….RUN!” And after your review maybe I still will. But I’ll leave Prudence at home with a copy of “The Notebook”. Yuck!

LOL… well now. Typical man response there, bucko. I boo-hoo’ed my way through the Notebook b/c I am a chick… but I truly enjoy me a good action flick. It’s the *cheese* I can do without!
