Stream of consciousness blogging

I remember about a gazillion years ago when I was still married to Twit, we’d been watching an old movie on VHS – I shouldn’t be able to tell you the name of the movie but the beauty of the internet and IMDb is that I was easily able to look it up…. It was titled, “No Way to Treat a Lady” (1968), starring Rod Steiger (that part I did remember on my own). Anyway, there was a line in the movie when the female character was reminiscing over a conversation with her former boyfriend when she had said, “… but I thought….” And her boyfriend said, “A thought of yours would die of loneliness.” (Which might have explained why the dude was her former boyfriend!)

I thought the line was hilarious until Twit looked over at me and said, “That’s YOU.”

Ha. I was young and naïve enough to believe every crappy thing he said to me so of course; I just thought he must have been right.

Now, years older and wiser, I have come to realize that is nowhere near the truth about me. I actually have LOTS and LOTS of thoughts, so many that in fact, half of them fleet in and out before ever really taking hold.

For example, I want to tell you about my latest crocheting project and the roundabout way it has actually come into existence. But in order to do that, you have to hold on for a wild ride through my head. (haha) (And show some linky-love along the way.)

Ok so it all started several months ago when I was watching Nurse Jackie via Netflix dvds. One day, it showed her outside with her jacket and scarf on and I fell in love with the scarf. So much so that I stopped the show and tried to get a closer look.

A day or two passed and I kept thinking of that scarf and before long I found myself online googling Nurse Jackie’s scarf. Lo and behold, I discovered I’m not the only crocheting fool that was googling it because it was in lots of discussion threads, as you can read here and here. Sometime a while back I joined this online community called Ravelry that is for knitters and crocheters – there were several people on there discussing it, with links to their images on flickr or facebook – where ever they post. I felt like I was on a scavenger hunt to find a prize, I tell ya!!

I followed a few links and quickly ended up on this pattern, which looks very similar, albeit in a different color than Nurse Jackie’s. So a quick trip out to get yarn and before you know it, I had this made.

And if one is good, two is better.

And…. Well, you know…. We all need color varieties so those two multiplied into three.

So now I got this far into making Nurse Jackie’s scarf but for the life of me, when I tried to follow the posie pattern, I was bitterly disappointed with the resulting flower. I tried it in several color variations and still was not pleased with it so after all this time, my scarves are still unadorned.

These are a few of my ugly attempts… not the posies but something else I was trying.

Flash forward several months, after I’ve been sidetracked with several other crochet projects such as this…

And this…

And several others that I don’t have photographs of right at the moment and I’m entirely too lazy to go take one right now.

This brings us up to the day that Shannon invited me to join her in perusing her new-found  time-waster website Pinterest. Ohhhh, let me tell you, I can spend hours looking around there. Go check it out….

So after looking around on Pinterest, of a gazillion other things that I love and would like to have, I found a photo of a BEAUTIFUL colorful flowery scarf that someone had pinned and I followed the link back to the blog where it was posted. I started looking around and realized, I’d been there before! My friend Meg had linked to her blog with some super cute ornaments a while back and I had bookmarked her page.

Oh and she has some super cute crocheted birds that I want to make for my metal tree too! (can you tell I LOVE her stuff?)

So since then, I’ve been making Japanese flowers out the wazoooo……. (and I only have a phone pic of them right at the moment – which truly doesn’t do justice to their color)

Don’t ask me what this has to do with the original Nurse Jackie scarf…. because, truly, it doesn’t. But I’m on a Japanese flower making-roll and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon because every stinkin’ time I look at them, I have to smile! I think I’m going to make a table runner out of them – which can also double as a scarf! I can just rip it off the table, shake the food crumbs out of it and throw it on my neck! hehe

So there you have it. What I’ve been up to in my spare time.

What have YOU been up to??

Knitting, knitting, and knitting. I finished a baby sweater and cap. I am knitting a shawl, well actually two shawls. I also have one sock each in two pairs of socks. Does that make sense. Two other projects that have been a long time coming. I am almost finished with both, but need to motivate myself. One is a shrug, with bamboo yarn and the other is a tote, which I will felt when I am finished knitting it.

Wooo, that’s a lot of knitting. I am tired just typing it.

You do good stuff!!! I wish I would take up crochet …no take back up knitting.
I have lots of ideas right now and lots of things to do but all I have been doing is cuddling babies, harrassing the older two about homework, tweeting and blog hopping… terrible.
