Sunday in Sunny Texas
Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Monday, June 23rd, 2008
Sunday was a beautiful day…. full of laughter and friendship, puzzles and swimming, tea party lunches and Jane Austen. It’s fabulous that after all this time of Shannon and I being friends - both of us hoping and praying that our daughters would find friendship as well - to actually watch that come to fruition. They’ve gotten along quite nicely - finding plenty to do to keep themselves entertained. They’ve played *dress-up* with some old formal dresses, they built a huge tent in their bedroom and laid under it playing cards and giggling, and played at the public swimming pool for a few hours in the afternoon. All in all, I’d have to say it’s gone miraculously well!
Shannon and I watched *The Jane Austen Book Club* and found ourselves wanting to run out and get all the books they discussed and form our OWN bookclub with some of our precious blog-buddies… sounds good in a sort of *pipe-dream* kind of way…. let’s revisit that notion when I get home and see if it’s actually a do-able idea or not. (But, if it remotely strikes your fancy…. let me know. That might encourage us to pursue it if we know that some of you might be interested!
)
I love it here. Mainly, that is because I’m spending time with SweetPea but…. the sky is gorgeous here. Of all the things - I am the most struck by how vast and how blue and how fluffy white the clouds have been so far. It is simply stunning. I’ve always loved clouds and shades of blue and just the constant changing canvas of the sky…. but it is absolutely spectacular here!! I think, possibly, part of the reason it looks so phenomenal is because the land is so flat… seems as if I can see so MUCH of the sky at one time…it just appears HUGE. I don’t know. I just know I LOVE it and have taken about a gazillion pictures of it already!
I love the fact that what you see in this picture are the beautiful white fluffy clouds… but also the reflection of the interior of my van! lol That might seem odd to you… but - picture me speeding down the interstate at 70mph - trying to aim and shoot! I did it (several times, actually!) but at the time I looked up and saw these beautiful clouds on Friday - I was in heavy traffic and afraid to try to get it myself so I asked Luby to get a shot of the sky for me. This is it…. I love it. (Yeah, I know I’m weird!)
This is the master bath.
Nah, just kiddin’!
It’s cute though, huh? I imagine if I had to USE it, I might not think so! It’s new, made to look old!

Jenon 23 Jun 2008 at 8:56 am 1I am so glad that you made it there safely! Sounds like you are having a great time together!
thotladyon 23 Jun 2008 at 10:16 am 2I am glad the girls are getting along. I visited Texas once in 1987, I think. My sister and I drove from Wisconsin to Dallas, actually Plano, TX where my aunt and uncle live.
We had such a good time. I loved it there too.
I am having the darndest time posting comments when I use my Mac at home with Firefox or Safari. Not on your site, just sites in general. It might be my provider, I am just not sure.
Here’s hoping all your days down there are sunny.
Stacyon 23 Jun 2008 at 11:41 am 3So glad you girls are all having such a great time! I am so jealous! Ask Shannon about the trip her and I were talking about.
A book club sounds like fun to me. I think I mentioned on my blog not too long ago. I love being home this summer and catching up on all my piles of books.
Keep showing us the pic’s, they are beautiful.

I’m more than a bit jealous- I haven’t been back in nearly 8 years & I think it’s high time Sam gets to know his roots.
I’m so pleased that your girls are getting along- you just never know if they’ll click- giving you all a bit of grown-up time.
