The Big Reveal

I started sharing with you all the updates I’d been doing on Luby’s bedroom a few weeks ago here and here. It took me a while to get it all done – with a trip to Las Vegas and the start of school in between the start and finish. But… finally it is done and I can show you!
Luby’s room a few years ago:
It was covered in a floral wallpaper, which she loved when we first bought this house, but as with all things – tastes change over time. She finally outgrew the flowers and was ready for something a little more suited to her tastes.
Luby’s room now:
I love the way it turned out. The polka dots on the wall were a transfer – you just applied them to the wall, rubbed, and peeled off the paper. They are whisper thin, which means they won’t need to be removed before painting in the future – you paint right over them. Since it is brown and pink, we were able to use her pink curtains again, although they look totally different to me against the brown wall. Her room is small so we decided to mount her television on the wall to free up the top of the dresser, where it used to sit. She loves being able to set some of her things on there now.
The shelf above the bed was formerly a full size head board. I bought it at a yard sale several years ago for $2, not really knowing what I would do with it. It sat in the garage forever until I decided to paint it and hang it as a shelf. I am not totally satisfied with it yet, I’m thinking it would be better in white, less heavy looking. What do you think? Luby likes it as it is… so we will see.
Overall, I’m pleased with the room. It is perfectly suited to my fun and whimsical 9 year old.

I like the brown shelf but understand what you mean about it being too heavy. Instead of painting it white, what about putting squares of pink/white scrapbook paper in the back of each little section? That might lighten it up a bit. Just a thought!
