The King
Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I just finished this hefty nearly 1100 page novel by the King of Storytellers – in my opinion, anyway – Stephen King.
For someone like me, that is a full-time mom and wife, a full-time employee, a novice photo junkie, and a blogging, knitting and rummikub addict – finding the time to read such a large novel (after months of not reading ANY books) should only tell you how much I loved it.
Stephen King has always been one of my favorite novelists, with his well-rounded and in-depth characters and a wide array of mystery-and-horror to keep my attention. I’ve been reading his works since I was in high school. We’ve grown up together, so to speak. His ability as a novelist has only improved and refined with time, probably just as my tastes in stories has grown as well. And that’s just it – he weaves perfectly detailed and intricate web-like stories.
I adore his work. Truly. And “Under the Dome” was classic King story-telling.
I know he’s not everyone’s *cup-o-tea* but I tell ya, he ROCKS in my book! Anyone want to borrow it?

Stacyon 27 Jan 2010 at 7:41 am 1I love Stephen King as well. There was a group of us in high school that convinced our favorite english teacher to make an elective class of just Stephen King. She did and of course we then all had to get permission from our parents to take the class, which we did and we had a great 1/2 year of being Stephen King junkies. We could read any of his books, write a book report and discuss them together in groups. We also watched some of the movies that were made from his books. That is one of the only classes I remember so much about…lol Thanks for the walk down memory lane this morning!
Beccaon 27 Jan 2010 at 10:48 am 2I am not really a Stephen King fan, his work kind of creeps me out. And he went to my high school in Maine. And lives in the town that A moved from before he moved to southern Maine. Maybe one day I will read him, but I am more partial to chick lit books.
1100 pages, wow! That is a lot of reading!
Laurelon 27 Jan 2010 at 11:38 am 3I actually go that book for Christmas from my kids, but I have not read it yet.
I have been a fan for too many years to count, but have to admit that the last few books were just too horrific for me. I kind of quit reading him. Now I have this book and it is haunting me!! I need to read it just because it was a gift from my kids.
I will try to get to it!!!
wahzaton 27 Jan 2010 at 11:43 am 4He is a great writer…and i base this on the only S.King book I ever read…I cant remember the name of it now but it was about a guy who could see the future after coming out of a coma…. I thought it was great and I especially enjoyed that it was not horrific just thrilling.
Love to read a good book too… cant tell you the last time I did that.
Chrison 27 Jan 2010 at 12:15 pm 5Yet another thing we share. I love Stephen King, but haven’t read anything of his in years. The Stand is my all-time favorite book. Based on your recommendation, I may have to pick this one up. Look for my review around 2029…
Doryon 27 Jan 2010 at 12:43 pm 6@ Chris – Well, of COURSE you love it! I swear, if I didn’t know better, I’d think we were twins separated at birth! “The Stand” is too my all-time favorite…. I’ve read it a gazillion times. I was actually thinking last night when I finished this one that it might be time to read it again – just to make sure this one didn’t beat it out. (I read it after I read “Insomnia” b/c I really liked that one…. but “The Stand” still topped it.)
@wahzat – Sounds like “The Dead Zone”.
@Laurel – Yep. Read it…. it does have some horror and language but….. you should anyway.
@Becca – I like chick lit too…. but every now and then… a little King and Koontz just hit the spot for me.
@Stacy – Wow…. what an awesome class! So glad I brought up some good memories!
Stacyon 27 Jan 2010 at 1:45 pm 7Have you read the Koontz Series “Odd Thomas? Love it. I have all three books, read one and two already. I can send them over if you want.
Doryon 27 Jan 2010 at 1:51 pm 8No, I haven’t. Last time I looked for them… I couldn’t find the first one so I didn’t get any of them. I’d love for you to send them but lemme look on the Paperback Swap thing first. K?
Beeboon 28 Jan 2010 at 9:35 am 9That was a very big book! I’m glad you finished it.
Jenon 28 Jan 2010 at 3:03 pm 10After reading SK’s Desperation, I have a fear of being pulled over on a desolate stretch of highway….
thotladyon 28 Jan 2010 at 4:01 pm 11I am also a Stephen King fan. My favorite novel is The Stand.
