The Lazy Crab
Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Saturday, June 7th, 2008
This morning I was on the beach before sunrise, waiting to take some pics. Sadly, the day dawned grey so no gorgeous sunrise pics from my last morning to show. (Although I got some on other days! lol)
I walked, picked up some shells, and finally sat on a towel and began to mentally prepare myself for leaving this place. I noticed a lump in the sand near where the water was and went to investigate. It was a fist-sized crab, partially buried in the sand. I thought it was dead. I grabbed my camera for this:
It was sooo not dead. The flash startled it, front feet flying up in the air! lol I don’t know WHO was more startled there for a sec. After it was *awakened*, it’s little front feet were moving around and I swear it LOOKED at me. I said, “Good morning” and went back to my towel to ponder the meaning of life a bit further.
After a while, I noticed the crab stretch upward, unearthing his legs from the sand. He shook sand off (or, maybe he was shivering, I don’t know exactly). Then he slowly and cautiously began to make his way toward the water, as if moving in slow motion and in NO BIG HURRY to get there. After about 18 inches or so, a wave came in and knocked it back almost to where it started. It stood there a sec and then just hunkered back down in the sand, as if it just was too much trouble to even bother trying again.
I said to myself, “Yeah buddy, I feel the SAME way today. I’m not ready to go home either.”

LOL
Beccaon 07 Jun 2008 at 9:52 am 2I resemble that remark this morning. I am sorry your vacation is almost over! Did you get lots of use out of your beach bag?
How was the book?
Hugs,
Becca
Yes, ma’am. Lots of use out of my bag!
thotladyon 07 Jun 2008 at 10:34 am 3I live two hours from the beach…Atlantic that is. I rarely go. My husband doesn’t enjoy the beach like I do. I need to find a way to get him there more often. I have a friend who has a condo in a beach town, she would let us use it anytime…but alas…did I mention my husband does not like the beach.
I did tell my husband though, that I was planning a week at the beach in October of this year, with or without him. I have a couple of friends who would like to come along.
Any ideas on how to get my husband to enjoy the beach more would be appreciated. He is a history buff, so maybe if I plan a trip near Savannah, Georgia he would enjoy himself. We have been to Charleston, SC and we both had a great time.
I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
I have no idea how to get him there, unless he likes golf b/c there is so much of that available. Last year we toured the USS North Carolina in Wilmington… it was really cool. Would he like something like that?
Stacyon 07 Jun 2008 at 5:06 pm 4So how many of those books did you get read?
Almost four. I read the webpage book, Duma Key (which was 600+ pgs) and
Something Borrowed. I’m half way through Something Blue.

Scintillaon 08 Jun 2008 at 10:47 am 6Isn’t it great when you can just find the time to sit, and do nothing and observe the world up close !
Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by.
