Well now… CRAPola!

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

I’m a bad mama.

Really REALLY bad.

Just ask Lillie.

:(

Wednesday afternoon, my girls had gotten home from school on the bus.

Beebo took a picture with her camera and emailed it to me, while I was still at work.

A picture of Lillie’s ear.

Yep. Her EAR.

You remember, previous stories of… flap, flap, flap… right?

The sound of Lillie shaking her head.

Often.

Repeatedly.

Because she has chronic itchy ears.

Here’s the pic:

Can you see that big BUBBLE looking area?

And the way it looks to be about an inch or more thick?

I called the vet and got my hubby to run her over, because I still had a patient and it was nearly closing time at the vets office. Our vet is a long time patient of mine (I work on her teeth, she keeps my pets healthy) and she immediately said upon examination, “Oh I’ve seen this happen before. And she needs surgery.”

WHAT?!?!

Evidently a blood vessel burst in her ear from the constant flapping.

They will surgically perforate the ear so the blood can drain out – it will be bandaged and take nearly 3 weeks to properly heal. I don’t even know how I’ll manage to keep a bandage on her head unless she is seriously medicated for 3 weeks… but we’ll cross that bridge later.

When she comes home.

She had to spend the night and won’t be ready to be picked up until late this afternoon.

Poor girl.

I’m a bad mama.

How did I not prevent this from happening?

When I was a kid we had a German Shepherd with the same thing, though his ears didn’t flap so much, they both stood straight up. The vet did the same procedure and everything worked out great. Good Luck!

Poor Lillie! You’re not a bad mama. You’re just busy. High five to Beebo for noticing and letting you know about it!!! :o )

Ahhh, she looks so sad. Poor Lillie.

Awwww…..Poor Lillie. I am sure she doesn’t think you are a bad mama. How are you supposed to stop her from flapping her ears? At least Beebo noticed, I am not sure my hubby would have noticed, much less my kids.

Sweet little Lillie. I am sorry she has a sore ear.
Could you get one of those plastic cones to fit over her head to keep her bandage on? They look so pitiful, but it might work.

You’re not a bad dog mom. It is very obvious how much love you have for four-legged friends.

Who would have thought? Good catch, Beebo!

She must be some flapper! Whodathunkit? Poor girl! But she’s lucky she’s got a family like yours to take care of her. It’s a far cry from a call by DCFS. Or would that be DDFS :)

Good luck keeping the bandage on! I’m with Jean – the cone may be your only option.
