What say you?

Posted by Dory @ Lucky Dorito on Thursday, September 24th, 2009

My sister, Lena, and I went to the wholesale jewelry market a few weekends ago and somehow, I made it home with this:

Sept09 007e

It’s a heavy hand-carved teak basket that Lena forced me to buy. (Really, she did.)  (What? You don’t believe me?) I have no earthly idea what I’ll do with it. Right now it’s sitting in the center of my table (and it was actually holding napkins – I removed them for the photo) …. who knows where it will ultimately end up. (Maybe someone’s Christmas gift… he he he)

Until I decide, tell me what you think…. is it Ugly or No?

I think it’s cool… but, I wouldn’t have any place to put it in my house, probably… it wouldn’t “go”…. but, I do like it :)

Well ….I do love baskets but this particular basket is not my style. I don’t think it’s ugly- just very chunky. I think it would be cute full of fall leaves and pinecones and set on the floor in your living room or even by the front door. It would also be cute sitting by your chair full of magazines or even your knitting/crochetting.

I was taught that if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. I have also been married for 21 years and have learned that when a woman asks “ugly or no”, you ALWAYS say no. And that goes for words other than “ugly”. So take this for what it’s worth:

    Love it!

@Chris – Your wife has taught you well. But… I really wanted an honest opinion – which I think I got, in a roundabout way. ;)

@ Shannon – I have already pictured it in my head with pinecones inside. (And think it will be adorable!) It is very chunky – good word for it – but…. I think that’s what I like about it. So different from most baskets. Just not sure about it *fitting in*, as Ann said.

I suppose it is a bit ugly, but I’m partial to nearly anything out of wood (plus an addiction to baskets), so I would have grabbed it too :-D
I can see it lined with checked napkins & filled with fruit- especially apples; it would also make an awesome garden-0work/harvesting basket- teak will outlive all of us!

Umm….Honestly, I kinda think it is ugly, but in a cute way.

Nope, not ugly to me. I love wood product, seeing as to how I am married to a tree farmer, I best be saying that! I think with an autumnal arrangement in it, it would be a perfect Thanksgiving centerpiece!

It looks like something that was made in Hawaii. I bought one there that is quite similar to that, just no handle. I think it is very pretty. Great find!!

Ugly is too strong of a word….
It wouldn’t go with my decor, but it is a funky, chunky, unique basket that would look fun with fruit or pinecones! I kinda like it!

I do not think it is ugly, lots of people would buy that. By the way, I have some oceanfront land in Kansas you might be interested in.

I like it for things like you all have already described! But I love wood things..

@Terry – LOL! :P I just about spit my water out when I read that!

Speaking of ocean front property…. just ONE WEEK! WoostinkinHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

This may surprise you, it kind of surprises me, but I like it!

Hmmm….This sounds like some kind of new feature. We could all have Ugly or Not entries on the same day, once a month. Wouldn’t that be a hoot. We could all link each other. hahaha
