Worms

We’ve had a ton of rain this week. My yard is squishy.
So this morning I get a random text from my friend Stacy that said:
I can’t help but think of you every time I see helpless little worms on the pavement. Makes me smile and want to pick them all up and put them in the grass.
I replied:
“Well, what’s stopping you? Pick ‘em up! lol”
She said:
“Ummm… well, they already think I am a nut here at work, and I am pretty sure if they saw me picking up worms, they would call the men in white coats.”
Odd conversation huh?
But… I knew exactly what she was referring to. A few weeks ago after a particularly rainy night, we had a plethora of wiggling worms on the driveway as I left for work. During the day, the sun had emerged and the worms had died…. turning into dried-up little carcasses littering my front porch and driveway. I walked into the house like I was in a field in landmines, dodging their crunchy little bodies. I tweeted about it, saying it must SUCK to be an earthworm since the rain lures them out by nature and then they just die. (I mean, really? Wouldn’t that just be the pits? Their mamas must be frantic each time one leaves the house. Errr…..burrow.)

Beccaon 03 Dec 2009 at 1:43 pm 1You know, if it sucked to be a worm, why would God have made them? It is also made perfect in the image He intended! And where would get good compost without them, and how would little boys and girls learn to fish if they didn’t have worms to use as bait?
Doryon 03 Dec 2009 at 2:03 pm 2@ Becca – Let’s not get literal chickie… I only meant that it sucks that their instinct is to COME OUT in the rain and then DIE.
Chrison 03 Dec 2009 at 3:01 pm 3Always makes me think I should open a bait shop.
Stacyon 03 Dec 2009 at 3:46 pm 4So glad I could help you with your blog today….lol You made me smile again today. Thanks!
Beccaon 03 Dec 2009 at 5:30 pm 5But they did serve a purpose and hey look at it this way, they are making themselves easily available for all the early birds to come and get the worm….
Lenaon 04 Dec 2009 at 8:06 pm 6I don’t think I have ever thought about a worms life. ….. but, your right it’s soooo sad. I’m glad I’m not a worm mommy.
